Gender equality is, first and foremost, a human right. A woman is entitled to live in dignity and in freedom from want and from fear. Empowering women is also an indispensable tool for advancing development and reducing poverty. Women Empowerment is all about giving equal rights to women in the decision making. Women empowerment refers to making women powerful to make them capable of deciding for themselves. Today, Women are becoming more and more informative, independent and innovative.
Education has played a very significant role in women empowerment. Education has increased the self confidence of a woman and helps in making better choices for life time.
A good education can increase women’s awareness of their rights, boost their self-esteem, and provide them the opportunity to assert their rights. The continuation of quality education will definitely produce more and more empowered women.
Apart from education the others steps which can be taken to boost confidence in woman are as follows:
- Equal representation of women at all levels in each community and society
- Encouraging women education across various fields
- Providing skill development and employment opportunity
- Help women to realize their rights
- Eliminate discrimination against women in all the phases of life
- Eliminating violence against women
- Elimination of poverty, illiteracy and ill health among women
- Child marriages must be abolished
The growth of Internet usage has also played a very important role in women to raise their voice and strengthen them. With the introduction of the World Wide Web, women have begun to use various social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter etc. Through online activism, women are able to empower themselves by organizing campaigns and voicing their opinions for equality rights without feeling oppressed by members of society. For example, on May 29, 2013, an online campaign started by 100 female advocates forced the leading social networking website, Facebook, to take down various pages that spread hatred about women
Women are confident, intelligent, sharp, kind and all these attributes make women a great leader. The biggest examples of smart talented women are Indira Gandhi, Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, Angela Merkel and many more. These women have shown tact, kindness, bravery all while winning hearts. Gloria Steinem, Amal Clooney and many other women have been tirelessly fighting for women’s rights all over the world. They’ve been fighting this ongoing battle for years on end.
Hence, Women’s empowerment and achieving gender equality is essential for our society to ensure the sustainable development of the country. Many world leaders and scholars have argued that sustainable development is impossible without gender equality and women’s empowerment. Sustainable development accepts environmental protection, social and economic development, and without women’s empowerment, women wouldn’t feel equally important to the process of development as men. It is widely believed that, the full participation of both men and women is critical for development. Women can be agents of change.
It is rightly said
“Once a woman is on the move,
the whole family moves,
then the village moves,
at last the nation also moves.”
